NY'ers know pizza

Maybe I'm still feeling grumpy about Pio Maya closing, but I had to say something about this. I know, I know, I try to not use my blog for evil, so I'll keep this tame. Upper Crust Pizza made it onto my "try these places" list for my trip to Boston. Apparently the mini-chain is madly popular, because they have locations all around the city. Sure enough, the branch I stumbled upon was packed on a Sunday afternoon. The special slice of the day sounded great. Heck, it even looks great. (see above) After one bite though, all I could think was, "hey guys, where is the flavor?" As a general rule, don't make your special of the day with fresh tomatoes in June. It was all downhill from there. Basically, the whole thing had a kind of washed out taste. I could think of 5, maybe 10 places in NYC that do better pizza than that every day of the week, special or not. And no, I still haven't made it back to Artichoke. P.S. I love Sweet Leaf tea, that half tea-half lemonade one in particular.
