8th street not looking good

If you know me, then you know 8th Street is pretty convenient for me when I'm heading home. Otherwise, I might avoid the block altogether. A bunch of restaurants have been opening between 5th and 6th ave.'s lately, but they all look crappy and overpriced, etc. And again if you know me, then you know I'm one of those people who always says how lousy the Mexican food offerings are in NYC. As I wrote in my blog many months ago, Pio Maya was an exception to the rule. I loved their tacos, and they were cheap too. A friend texted me on Saturday night, asking for a Mexican food recommendation. That was an easy one. I txt'd back, "head to Pio Maya..." When she txt'd me back a photo of the shuttered store front, with a "for rent" sign no less, I was crushed. Really, I often don't care when restaurants closed, but this news bummed me out. Please, if you know where the Pio Maya crew is headed, let me know.
